Is Batman jinxed?
Morgan Freeman seriously hurt in car accident.

“They had to use the jaws of death to extract him from the vehicle,” McFerrin said.

First Heath Ledger’s death, then Christian Bale’s arrest and now this?

I dont believe that nonsense.

Heath died while making another movie, he had finished principle photography on TDK.
Christian's arrest only got big publicity because of TDK's success.
As for Morgan's accident, Shia Lebouf not affiliated with Batman was also in a car accident recently.

Its just bull for people to talk about. Where is the source for this 'curse' 'jinx' stuff from?

Well I'm not superstitious by nature but all 3 guys played major roles in Batman and they've all had some pretty serious, bad things happen to them within the space of one year. I try to balance not reading too much into things with being open-minded.

I'm very superstitious but this stuff is just crazy talk.
Its the same as River Phoenix dying when he was cast to play the interviewer in Interview with the Vampire and then that actress/singer Aailah (forget her name) played the Queen in The Queen of the Damned died in a plane crash. And both films are based on Anne Rices vampire books.

The only thing I found weird was Heath made a movie called "I'm not there" before TDK. Thats the only thing I found creepy.

when (god forbid) something happens to Gary Oldman, Micheal Cain and Aaron Eckhart too -than I'll worry.

And the girl that played the possessed girl in Exorcist. And the strange mishaps surrounding the making of Owen. I actually think that there might be something in these things. And I really am not superstitious most of the time.

Yeah, that is creepy. I didn't know that. Now, that makes me wonder and I know this sounds totally out there, but could Heath be the cause of the jinx?
got_no_strings From: got_no_strings Date: August 5th, 2008 09:38 am (UTC) (Link)
No, being arrested and survivng a car accident is nothing like what happened to Heath.
If the film were jinxed it would of tanked at the Box Office.

A jinx is like the earlier actors who played superman had were involved in some life threatening accidents, but Tom Welling and the guy who was in Superman Returns are fine *knock on wood*
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: August 5th, 2008 09:53 am (UTC) (Link)
Well maybe the film itself is not jinxed but people involved with it are?

*knocks on wood too*
got_no_strings From: got_no_strings Date: August 5th, 2008 11:14 am (UTC) (Link)
nah, lol anything that happens to the cast/crew of TDK are gonna be blown out of proportion in the media based on the film's success and Heath's tragedy.
Its just something for them hack magazines to print and make a quick buck off, thats why there is this talk of jinx and curse, its just to serve the media.

If another cast or crew member does something it will be twisted and stretched for public consumption.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: August 5th, 2008 11:44 am (UTC) (Link)
I actually didn't know there was any talk about a jinx. It's not part of the article, in case you think it was a quote. The article doesn't connect the accident to the previous Batman actors's headliners. The idea of a jinx on The Dark Knight came from me.
got_no_strings From: got_no_strings Date: August 5th, 2008 01:12 pm (UTC) (Link)
There was talk of a jinx elsewhere, a person on my flist posted about it.
The only real death involved with TDK was the crew member who died during a stunt.
All the actor's involved incidents have happen months after completed filming.
Its just the media grabbing attention, because of TDK's success they're using the "Dark Knight actor ...." in their headlines to catch people's eyes.

Here's a real jinx, when George Lucas filmed the first Star Wars movie (A new Hope) a storm wrecked his Tatooine sets, years later when he filmed Phantom menace the same thing happened their when they filmed Tatooine scenes.

Someone died during a stunt? Oh no. I had no idea about that.

Here's a real jinx, when George Lucas filmed the first Star Wars movie (A new Hope) a storm wrecked his Tatooine sets, years later when he filmed Phantom menace the same thing happened their when they filmed Tatooine scenes.

Were they sandstorms? Because if they were, you'd expect them to happen in the Tunisian desert.
got_no_strings From: got_no_strings Date: August 6th, 2008 05:56 am (UTC) (Link)
here's the trivia from imdb.com

[A New Hope] On the first day of filming in the deserts of Tunisia, the country experienced its first major rainstorm in 50 years.

[Phantom Menace] In 1997, a fierce sandstorm destroyed several of the Tatooine sets in the desert outside Tozeur, Tunisia. Filming resumed two days later. George Lucas considered this a good omen, as the very same thing had happened during filming of the original Star Wars (1977).
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: August 6th, 2008 06:02 am (UTC) (Link)
Mmmm... The first one is definitely freaky: the first rainstorm in 50 years. But the second one was a sandstorm which is a fairly regular occurence in deserts.
got_no_strings From: got_no_strings Date: August 6th, 2008 09:59 am (UTC) (Link)
there ya see, if you can see this as not a jinx because of the differences than the TDK isnt jinxed because they're different incidents.

its like people calling graveyards and libraries haunted, I find libraries cozy.
when something freaks people out the best way they can deal with it is come up with an explanation.
a quote from Batman Begins "you always fear what you dont understand" --so true.

It's sample bias, though. How many people have worked on Batman and haven't had bad luck lately? How many people haven't worked on Batman and have had bad luck lately?

I feel the same way about the so-called "Superman curse", for the record.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: August 6th, 2008 06:01 am (UTC) (Link)
I didn't even know about the Superman curse until orphan_kitty brought it up. You're right about the bias thing. Of course, no one is really going to bother to check that out.

I love your Lois Lane icon btw.

i hope and pray he'll be fine..He's one of my very favourite actors..
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: August 5th, 2008 09:05 am (UTC) (Link)
I think he will be. He was lucid during the extraction and he cracked jokes with the bystanders. He's a wonderful actor and apparently, a very strong man, both physically and spiritually.
atanone From: atanone Date: August 5th, 2008 11:15 am (UTC) (Link)
*nods* he always works so trustfuly on me :)

I hope he's okay.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: August 5th, 2008 01:37 pm (UTC) (Link)
I think he will be. The article said he was lucid when he was extracted and he was making jokes and laughing. He seems like such a strong guy. I'm sure he'll be fine.

They are freaky coincidences but I don't think it is a curse.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: August 6th, 2008 06:03 am (UTC) (Link)
You're probably right. Maybe just one of those really weird coincidences.

BTW, have you finished Breaking Dawn yet?
frostbit_sky From: frostbit_sky Date: August 6th, 2008 05:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
I just got it yesterday and am about 200 pages in. I maybe done by Friday night the latest. A big review will be up by the weekend for sure.
frostbit_sky From: frostbit_sky Date: August 10th, 2008 01:20 am (UTC) (Link)
I finished now.

Have mixed feelings about it. There's a whole lengthy review on my journal.

It's a fairly weak jinx, if that's what you want to call it. While Ledger's death was pretty tragic, Bale's problem wasn't nearly as serious as it initially seemed, and it sounds like Freeman is going to be okay.

It does sound like a weird series of unfortunate events, but it is a BIG movie getting a lot of attention, so if something happens to members of the cast/crew, they're bound to get a lot of attention as well.

I thought he was arrested for attacking his mom and sis? That's pretty hard-core.

The thing is that nothing in the article linked Morgan Freeman's accident to Heath Ledger's death. So it wasn't like it's the media - or at least this particular source - that is trying to make out the jinx...
hollywood_r_bin From: hollywood_r_bin Date: October 20th, 2008 02:57 pm (UTC) (Link)
Christian Bale was arrested? Really? Wow, i am so not up-to-date with this stuff...
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 21st, 2008 07:59 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hi girl! How're you doing?

Yeah but that was ages ago. A lot of drama occured around the time of the Dark Knight premiere.

hollywood_r_bin From: hollywood_r_bin Date: October 22nd, 2008 03:59 am (UTC) (Link)
Oh right... hmm yeah i didn't know that.

BTW i know you're probably not in the Gossip Girl fandom but I checked out this discussion community right? And there's this couple, Chuck/Blair, it's my favourite canon ship on the show but the discussion was "who should apologize" and I'm AMAZED how many people (whom i assume most are girls) thought Blair was in the wrong because she asked Chuck to tell her that he loved her after he ABANDONS her on their vacation together to sleep with another women... i mean sure, Chuck is a bastard womenizer, and Blair knows that, she's a bitch too, they're equally manipulative which makes them perfect for each other but as much as I LOVE Chuck, I'm amazed at how many women would side with him instead of her and saying stuff like Blair shouldn't expect Chuck to change immediately... which I didn't think she did at all, Chuck was the one who thought he wanted Blair back and tried to change on his own to get her back, Blair had accepted that he was that way and dumped him because he wasn't the kind of guy she could see herself having a happily ever after with, Chuck wanted her back, tried to change then freaked out at the last minute and ditched her. He comes crawling back and she asked him for one thing, "3 words, 8 letters", I didn't think she was asking him to change, she was asking for assurance! And he couldn't do it, so she left with another guy.And people are like Blair's demanding! WTF? I mean, Chuck is my favourite character on the show, i love him to bits, he's my reason for watching even but for god's sakes, is there no female solidarity left in the world? Or at least the world of fandom?

Sorry for the rant. I know you probably don't watch the show but this is one of the few places i feel safe ranting about the injustice of the treatment of female characters.

They just started airing Season 1 of Gossip Girl over here and last week they aired the episode where Blaire and Chuck make out (or make love?) for the first time. So I am a bit familiar with the storyline. :P But I had no idea they went on to become a couple! I'll have to think about that. I have serious issues with Chuck's attempted rape of Serena in the pilot - something that the show has yet to address in any shape or form. Blaire, a character that quickly became dear to me, falling in love with that kind of creep doesn't strike me as right.

Just taking the scenario you described in its own context, I think that's just another example of why I left Smallville fandom and refuse to participate in One Tree Hill fandom or Greek (a new show I've fallen in love with) fandom. It's definitely a good reason never to get involved with Gossip Girl fandom - although I was never tempted. The double standard that the female-dominated fans place on their so-called favourite characters never ceases to drive me mad. Out of morbid curiousity, what exactly do the fans think about Serena?
hollywood_r_bin From: hollywood_r_bin Date: October 22nd, 2008 12:55 pm (UTC) (Link)
Where are you from then? Maybe you told me already and i forgot... and yeah, i know they pretty much just skated over that one but that seems to happen quite a bit. Still, somehow i actually grew to like Chuck even though i hated him initially... actually it was the episode after he did it with Blair that i started to like him. I think I have a thing for villians, just people i would generally give a good kick and run away if i meet in real life, i like watching them on TV lol. I dunno, it's like, i like watching him as the puppet master, in his schemes the way he's subtly pushing everyone in the direction he wants them to go. And i also, one thing i do understand about his character is his inability to tolerate vulnerability within himself, it happened with him and Blair, he starts to be more like the guy she'd want to be with, he freaks out, then when she leaves him, he's vulnerable and he just lashes out at her... and it happens with Dan too in season 2, he starts to open up to him, then when it occurs to him that Dan might be using him he just shuts it down, tells himself that Dan's a nobody and doesn't matter. Anyway, i find Chuck really interesting to get into as a character, i just finished writing a Chuck/Dan fic and like, it's just fun trying to get inside his head you know? I usually prefer to write female characters and femmeslash but Chuck is one of the few characters I found whom i could voice with ease in my fic other than Lana and Chloe.

As for Blair, i dunno, she doesn't really fall for him like that, she actually rejects him quite a lot... leading to him always plotting to take her down. Still, as far as canon ships go, i like them... well, i liked them up until s2 anyway, though i have to say I prefer Blair/Dan, which doesn't exist in canon but i think they'd be so good together. Sucks that it's not happening :(

I'm not THAT much in the GG fandom, i just kinda stumbled into a poll in one community. I actually have no idea how they feels about Serena, the only people i talk to about Gossip Girl is Novak fan, who's a Serena/Blair shipper, and ramenlass who is a Chuck/Dan shipper :p And when i participate in fandom, it's with art and fics in the GG slash community. All canon related stuff, i'm just not there, mostly cause i feel the same way you do lol. I get enough of that stuff from Smallville, and i don't get it that much anymore cause on Kryptonsite, i mostly hang out at the art section, sharing photoshop techniques (and talking about the show to people i already know won't bite my head off for disagreeing with them).

*sighs* i wish i was better at finishing longer fics though. I have an idea for Gossip Girl in Space (pretty much Gossip Girl + Star Wars + Twelfth Night), and i pretty much created an entire history of the universe for it, like what happened to Earth, the wars and stuff, all the way down to like, what the planets look like... but no story. I know the roles of each character, but i haven't actually written it.

Same with the immortal Lana one :p That one, the inspiration just kinda died. Been too into Gossip Girl lately.
