"Before you say anything, I'd like to remind you that I'm holding an axe."
Just popping by to give a shout out to the show that has become Must Watch TV for me. I've never been able to get much into Sherlock Holmes - the novels or any of the million portrayals. (I was fleetingly fascinated by Christopher Lee's films when I was much younger but I doubt it will live up to the nostalgia). Arthur Doyle's collection of short stories were essentially procedurals starring - as Hercule Poirot would describe* - a human bloodhound and his biographer. And they weren't really mystery stories as much as they were adventure stories, so I didn't enjoy that aspect of reading a mystery when I try to figure out whodunnit.

Anyway, I enjoyed the first Robert Downing Jr movie mostly because of Irene Adler but since she was [Spoiler (click to open)]killed off in the prologue of the second movie, I couldn't get into the second movie. I watched 6 minutes of BBC Sherlock and switched off. Ah, 2 white dudes and their epic bromance. Yeah, I think I've seen enough of those shows to last me a lifetime.

So Elementary is pretty much a breath of fresh air for me, and then some.

*(No bias, at all I swear!)

I need some Elementary icons. :)

Whaaaat?? They killed off Irene Adler in the second movie?! Okay, now I'm not going to watch it! I really liked her in the first movie, what a douche move.

I actually like the BBC version lol mainly because of the actors and yeah, okay, their chemistry :P I couldn't stand this version of Irene Adler though, ugh Moffat still can't write women.....

I'll have to try Elementary sometime I heard good things about it elsewhere too. What's puzzling to me is the fact Watson is a woman in this version and IDK how can you not ship Sherlock/Watson there?? ;)

Yeah, they did. And I'm not sure they even killed her off "in" the movie, since she practically died before the title card appeared. And yeah, don't bother watching the rest of the movie. Because it really was horrible.

I did try to watch BBC Sherlock but... sigh. I heard that Irene Adler's debut was her naked on a couch... for reasons. Of course. *eyeroll*

Elementary is fantastic. And yes, it is very, very difficult to not ship Sherlock/Joan because they are wonderful together. But the producers, etc. promised that they didn't make Watson a female to hook them up together so ... what can one do? *sigh*.

WTH?? Even Rachel Dawes's death (worst character in the latest Batman's franchise IMO who was only there to give Batman a so-called love interest) was at least in the middle of the movie and had some sort of importance.

Isn't that called 'the woman in the fridge' theory or something? Disgusting.

Yeah, in the BBC Sherlock, Irene Adler is a dominatrix so of course the only way she can throw off Sherlock is by appearing naked for their first meeting (because he's supposed to figure someone out in 30 seconds by looking at their coat or something). This was really stupid. She was supposed to be attractive to Sherlock because she was as intelligent as he is but it looked like he was only interested in her because she was dominating him and was always alluding to sex.

And let's not talk about how Sherlock outsmarted her because her secret password was about how she had feelings for him and he was all like 'hah, woman has feelings, woman is weak!' *eyeroll* And at the end, there was a ludicrous sequence with her being saved by him from dangerous Muslim terrorists. Sexist, racist, you name it. This episode almost turned me off Sherlock for good. Moffat is lucky the Watson/Sherlock duo works so well. He's the reason why I no longer watch Doctor Who BTW.

I think I'm going to try Elementary then. :)

So sorry it took me this long to reply this...

Got distracted with work, kids and then needed to catch up on the latest Elementary... ;)

Yep, Irene was definitely fridged. Which is as disgusting and upsetting as it sounds, especially since I believe the main reason why she was got rid off was to pacify the Holmes/Watson shippers.

LOLOL! OMG. that is so ridiculously bad, it's actually funny. Seriously? Who writes this?

In the interest of full disclosure, Elementary does hint that Irene Adler exists... and was [spoiler] fridged by Moriarty in Sherlock's past. But there are also strong indications that she may not be dead and may even have faked her own death. It can go either way.

Hi leia,

I totally hear you. I have nothing against bromances with white blokes but we've seen more than enough of those. Glad that you're enjoying Elementary!

Hi vanimy, I was pretty shocked when they killed off Irene Adler in the second movie. She was a great character, and the main reason why I watched it. :(

Edited to add: I found some Sherlock and Joan Elementary icons made by drewjoana here. Enjoy! :) http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/sherlock-and-joan/images/32149654/title/elementary-icons-icon

Yeah, I can't walk down a TV guide page without bumping into half a dozen bromances. Let's give the ladies some playing field, ok?

Thanks for the link so much!

Hi! :) Yeah, ditto. Now I know I won't watch the second movie. I don't even see the point in bringing her back just to kill her off.
