Cradle to Grave status - 95 Down, 5 to Go!
Just updated 86-90 on fanfiction.net... I'm waiting for a few hours before updating 91-95 which I WROTE THIS MORNING!!!

I still can't believe that I will finish these drabbles before the end of January. I am so impressed with myself! Really, truly. I've never been this pleased with me in a long time. ;)

Congratulations, dear! :D

On a random note, mercenary Kenobi is quite interesting. ;)

I'm going to put that plot bunny up for adoption when I'm through with these drabbles. Are you interested. ;)
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 1st, 2007 06:44 am (UTC) (Link)
*squirms* I would be, but I honestly don't think I could do it justice. And I've already got two massive sized AUs running about in my head. Anabasis is one of them, of course, and the other involves Anakin and Kitster as smugglers/pirates. :D It's kind of an OT-version of the PT. That one is my baby.

Thanks for offering, though. ;) And I may yet take you up on that, if the bunny bites hard.

Pirates in the GFFA PT? Me like! Will there be Padme in it?
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 2nd, 2007 06:54 am (UTC) (Link)
Will there be Padme in it?

Oh yes. :D Here's the basic gist: It's kind of like Anabasis in that the Jedi never found Anakin on Tatooine, the battle of Naboo was lost, and Palpatine took over almost immediately thereafter. But in this case, the Sith didn't find Anakin either. He and Kitster (have I mentioned that I love Kitster?) escape from slavery and eventually end up on Coruscant, working for Dexter Jettster running guns to the Rebellion. Padme features prominently as a rebel leader a la Leia (caustic wit and all). Obi-Wan's involved too, and he's much more laid back: more like Qui-Gon. Probably because he's had ten years of essentially roaming the galaxy on his own, without any restrictions.

Anyway, they'll all meet up eventually. Obi-Wan's got some hare-brained idea that Anakin might be the Chosen One, but here's the kicker: Anakin doesn't even believe that the Force exists. *grins evilly*

Well, that's the idea anyway. I'm planning to start it as soon as I finish Anabasis. *grins and points at pirate!Anakin the icon*

Oh wow! This is so beyond cool! :D And yes, I love Kitster, too. Who doesn't? ;)
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 2nd, 2007 08:36 am (UTC) (Link)
Thanks for the encouragement. :) Now I will definitely have to do it.

Yes, Kitster is great. I have a personal theory that when he grows up, he's probably the most wildly attractive man in the galaxy. ;)
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 2nd, 2007 09:35 am (UTC) (Link)
Oh definitely. There's all that dark hair and lean, sharp features. And no, I wasn't lusting over Jake's playmate, just observing good genes and potential :p . And because I'm partial to Hayden, I would say that Kitster he won't be more attractive than Anakin's Greek god blond good looks, but as attractive in his own way. :p
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 2nd, 2007 10:23 am (UTC) (Link)
Glad I wasn't totally off base with that one, then. ;)

Well I certainly have nothing against Anakin's looks. ;) But he's got so many fangirls, and people usually write that into fics, as well. So I thought it would be fun to take a totally random character that a lot of people tend to forget about entirely, and turn him into an intergalactic heart-throb. LOL. Or something like that. That's one of the reasons Anabasis!Kitster is a holostar. Well, that and I needed him to be part of the artist group so he could meet up with Anakin again.

Just imagine Anakin and Kitster as pirates. That's a very...appealing combination, I think. ;)

LOL!

Palo also came to mind for that role, but I figured it would be enough of a shock if I just made him a half decent person. LOL.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 2nd, 2007 11:18 am (UTC) (Link)
Everybody seems to hate Palo. It's so distressing! Have you heard of some guy called Ian? He was featured in an EU comic starring Padme, just before she became Queen Amidala. He was supposedly in love with her but she turned him down to become a politician.

I've been thinking of a story involving him and Padme for a couple of days now. It even has a clear cut theme, unusual for my usual rambling ideas...

Don't you love bunnies? When the story ideas are still fresh and shiny in your head?
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 2nd, 2007 11:37 am (UTC) (Link)
I'm quite fond of Palo, actually. I think that's partly because I'm contrary by nature. ;) But also the idea of an artist in the GFFA is just a very interesting one. And if you make him a rebel, well... There's nothing more romantic than the idealist artist.

I think I've heard of Ian, though I've never read the comic. So, can I ask what this plot bunny is? Or is it a secret? ;)
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 2nd, 2007 12:06 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oooh ::rubs hands together excitedly:: I've been looking for someone to discuss it with! :D

OK, a little background information: Ian fell in love with Padme's picture [sounds familiar?] before she became Queen and went out of his way to meet her. They became very good friends but their love was threatened by his father who was corrupt King Veruna's supporter and disapproved [naturally] of the new Queen-aspirant. Anyway, Amidala won the election, Ian's father went to prison or died [he was a bad person] and Ian, after Amidala had told him she won't have time for a relationship, hitch-hiked from Naboo on a freighter.

Now that's canon.

The idea for my story, the fanon, so to speak is that Ian became a bounty hunter, mixed with underbelly of the galaxy and generally became hot in a dangerous kind of way. :p But essentially, he remained a good guy. And when his and Padme's paths crossed, in between her first and second tenure [re-election time to be precise], sparks flew again. Ian is aggressive enough not to complacently roll over and die when she tells him she's too busy for love; and Padme is attracted to him because he's exactly her type: gorgeous blond with a dangerous vulnerability. :p

So she quits office and settles down to be Mrs Ian. He quits his dark past and becomes quite respectful, inheriting his father's estate and generally living a good life. Fast forward a few years and children, and our couple come across Anakin Skywalker. Sparks fly between Mrs Ian and Jedi Skywalker but that's not all. Far from it. There's a love square, if such a thing exists. :p Then even less trivial, there's the small matter of Anakin investigating the murder of a few Jedi by an unknown and now presumed dead bounty hunter. Then there's the Sith in the shadows and generally, nothing ever being what it seems to be.
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 6th, 2007 08:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ach, sorry it took me so long to reply to this! I've been busy. *sighs*

Well, I must confess to disliking love triangles with a fiery passion. LOL. But that being said, I think that if anyone could pull this story off, it would definitely be you. And your comment about Padme's taste in men is only too true. :D
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 6th, 2007 09:33 pm (UTC) (Link)
::laughs:: I understand your reservations but I promise it's not a simple story of Padmé leaving Anakin or making sacrifices at the altar of Eros. I've been reading The Four Loves and there's a theme I'm going to explore with this story.
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 6th, 2007 11:09 pm (UTC) (Link)

Ooh, I love that book. :D

Well, you have now completely peaked my interest. I think I shall be looking forward to this.

Does your theme, by any chance, deal with Lewis' distinction between Eros and simple Venus? Or am I just taking shots in the dark? LOL.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 7th, 2007 06:10 am (UTC) (Link)
It might deal with that, but it would also deal with the idea that he put (which I've always agreed with but never expressed so coherently to myself) that Eros is not a god to be worshipped i.e. 'I did it for love' is not a justification for every and all ills - adultery, betrayal, deceit, and worse. And also that being in love with someone does not translate into being happy with someone and vice versa.
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 7th, 2007 06:53 am (UTC) (Link)
You know, I think I have just completely resigned my reservations on this fic. ;) Actually, I would be incredibly grateful if you wrote something on those themes. They're hard to write about, especially in our culture, which does worship love so much, but I think they definitely need to be heard. Especially in the SW fandom after ROTS, when it seems like so many people are writing fics that seem to claim Anakin's sins were lesser because he "did it for love." I'd definitely like to see something along a different vein, no matter what diretion you take it.

I hope that made a bit of sense. LOL. My mind is a bit numb right now.

YAH! :D

To be honest, I've always wanted to read something on this. I've always been one to sympathize with the cuckold in a story - regardless of how boring or evil he/she is usually made out to be just to make the True Lovers look good. Now Ian is not a saint, and I'm not going to make him one. But neither is Anakin and the story really isn't about who is more deserving but to whom she owes more loyalty. And it's also about honesty and the importance of family and moral codes. :p But yeah, it's basically about not sacrificing everything at the altar of Eros.
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 7th, 2007 07:19 am (UTC) (Link)
Hmm... I am very curious now. :D

You now have at least three fics that I am quite insistent about you finishing: Kaleidoscope, the Dooku/Anakin fic, and this one. I think you had better get busy. ;)

Yes, ma'am! :)

Have I told you yet how I can't wait to read this story? There're so few original ideas in fanfiction these days...
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 2nd, 2007 11:16 am (UTC) (Link)
:) Thanks for your interest. Now if only I could find the time to write it... *sighs* Sometimes I wish I could just quit school and write fanfic full time. LOL.

Speaking of original ideas, how is Kaleidoscope coming along? *bats eyelashes*
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 2nd, 2007 11:23 am (UTC) (Link)
::blushes:: I had actually resolved not to write Kaleidoscope this weekend. I have this humongous story (actually, it's the Dooku story I mentioned to you) that I have neglected for the past year. ::shudders:: And since 2007 seems to be my Year of Finishing Things, I decided to write the next chapter of this story this weekend. It's a bit intimidating since I've been so long away from the story I actually have to re-read to remember who/where/what/why/how. Thank goodness for detailed notes.

So no, no Kaleidoscope before Wednesday. I may get some writing done on Tuesday if everything works out... I'm sorry to let you down. ::sad face:: Promise you won't retaliate by holding back on Anabasis? ::begging face::
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 2nd, 2007 11:41 am (UTC) (Link)
I can understand that. And if you're focusing on that Dooku story instead, I certainly won't complain! I'm very excited about that one, too.

Promise you won't retaliate by holding back on Anabasis?

Weelll... If I hold back, it won't be in retaliation, how's that? I am pretty busy with school right now, though. *sighs* But I'm hoping to find some time this weekend.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 2nd, 2007 11:54 am (UTC) (Link)
So am I! Or rather, I used to be very excited about it. There was a year when it was all I could write. ::sigh:: I actually wrote Through A Mirror Darkly to get back in the writing mood for This story. That's the last time, I'm ever going to try something like that. :p

So you are going to hold back on Anabasis!!! ::WAILS::

Joking!

Yes, it seems that this weekend is the one every fan writer's been waiting for. :p
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 6th, 2007 08:14 pm (UTC) (Link)

Yeah, isn't that always the way it is. :D I started writing Anabasis mostly as a writing exercise to work my way up to the pirates story, but now it's become something much larger than I had originally planned.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 6th, 2007 09:27 pm (UTC) (Link)
And the moral of that story is - never feed the plot bunnies!
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 6th, 2007 11:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
*laughs* Or perhaps always feed the plot bunnies. They often lead to unexpected but good things. ;) (e.g., Kaleidoscope and Anabasis)
