Prince Caspian

So we know who Prince Caspian is:

http://www.narniaweb.com/news.asp?id=1083&dl=11571855

Won't it have been nice to actually  have someone closer to the age of the kid in the book?  You know, 13?  And won't it have been even nicer to not have the Susan/Caspian shipping that apparently is going to be part of the new movie.  Poor Susan.  As if canon doesn't already give her a short stick, her movie incarnation will forever be regarded as the couldn't-hold-a-candle-to forerunner of Ramandu's daughter/celestial princess/Caspian's eventual wife/Queen of the last Narnian dynasty.

But at least he's pretty.  That compensates.  I daresay not much but it's a start.

Susan/Caspian? We've already got all this Lucy/Caspian in fandom...I partly wrote 50 sentences about Caspian and his wife because I was tired of her getting the short shrift!

An effort I applauded soundly. ::wink:: Although I sincerely doubt that the daughter of a Star could get the short shift even if she tried. ::shuddders at the idea of these 'attempts' and renews vows to stay away from non-missizzy Narnia fan fiction::

Well, you're right, he is pretty. I really need to re-read those books.

Not for the pretty, I hope? The closest thing we get to romance in the Chronicles is The Horse and his Boy.

Definitely not! Twenty-something is as young as I'm willing to go. ;)

Nah, I need to read them again because there is so little that I remember, which is astounding to me because I read those books so many times as a kid that I wore my copies out (the only books I ever remember losing pages from because I was so hard on them). Good thing my mom bought me a hardbound set for christmas. :)

Even then, though, romance and horses (especially the horses) were my weakness. THAHB was my favorite of the 7.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Great minds do think alike. ;) Talking about legal, I do hope they cast a hunk for grown up!Edmund. :-P

Yeah, Susan/Caspian???? Okayyy, then.

I'm okay with having Caspian be older in the film version, although that makes me wonder how they'll work in Dr. Cornelius. Maybe they'll just have Dr. Cornelius be his sidekick.

Okayyy, then.
My reaction exactly. I don't want to be like one of those canon fanatics who scream blue murder if the change the colour of Edmund's eyes (what colour are his eyes anyway?) but still.... ::sulks:: STILL!!

Dr Cornelius as his sidekick? That's so wrong on so many levels. When you think about it, Caspian does some growing up in the book - starting from when he was a very small boy with his Dwarf-nurse, to when he was a young man escaping from Miraz to the time that the 4 Royals arrive. I think he was in hiding for at least two years. Perhaps he's about 15 when the Royals arrive. Still a very far cry from 25. ::sad::

It just occured to me - whatever happened to his cousin i.e. Miraz's son and the one he would have killed Caspian for?
foodsthatcan From: foodsthatcan Date: February 6th, 2007 07:23 am (UTC) (Link)
I don't think they can leave out Miraz's son--it's the whole reason Caspian goes into hiding in the first place.

I know. What I meant was - what happened to him in the book? There's no mention of him at all - whether he lived or died, became Caspian's ally or went off on his own.

Please, please tell me this is all someone's idea of a practical joke! Susan/Caspian? *facepalm* What is the world coming to...

Doom and a bad end, as I suspect Puddleglum would say.

He is pretty. But I daresay that hardly makes up for the mess they're making of the story. >_

Well there's that hope [that it's a practical joke] but I don't know. According to narniaweb.com, a boy who auditioned for the role said that one of the scenes involved Susan and Caspian and archery. Remember that scene in the book when Susan bested Trumpkin at archery? They took Trumpkin out, and put in Caspian and a lot of witty flirtation.

*groans* Someone shoot me now...

Not that I have anything against Caspian, of course, or Susan for that matter. They just don't belong together. I'll never understand why film-makers feel the need to "fix" the books they're filming. *sighs*
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 7th, 2007 06:53 am (UTC) (Link)
And they can't even do that - all the more annoying. We know Caspian ends up with Ramandu's daughter. And I can't even imagine Caspian flirting with Queen Susan of the Horn. It's totally against the mythology of the whole series!
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 7th, 2007 06:55 am (UTC) (Link)
True. Flirting is just not the done thing in Narnia...
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: February 7th, 2007 07:06 am (UTC) (Link)
Precisely. Even the flirting between Caspian and Ramandu's daughter in the Voyage doesn't count as it wasn't technically in Narnia. :p

The only Narnian love story we see evolved after years of fighting and making up and getting married in order to carry on at it more conveniently. :p Really, Lewis was so snarky!
fialleril From: fialleril Date: February 7th, 2007 07:17 am (UTC) (Link)
*snickers* I loved that part. They liked arguing so much, they decided they had better get married so as to do it properly. :D
