POTC 3 Speculation
Has anyone noticed this in the trailer?

It looks remarkably like Witty Jack, doesn't it? Has anyone ever noticed this and/or come up with an explanation for why the good Captain Sparrow got time off from the Flying Dutchman?

Didn't notice that before. Could be a flashback type of thing.

Flashback to when? Before DMC or after?

I'd say to as far back as before Curse of the Black Pearl.

So Sparrow was in Davy Jones' service before he sold his soul for the Pearl? That doesn't seem right to me. Why would Jones bargain for something he already had?

Maybe Jack had served his time on the Dutchman and was about to be free'd. Hmmm... something about that doesn't quite work.

Jack did something "selfless" for Jones, so he rewarded Jack with 10 years freedom from service to captain the Pearl? I like that theory better.

Just that it's pretty hard for me to imagine Jack - or anyone - being selfless in the Flying Dutchman. Apart from the fact that the conditions on that ship do not incline one to the best of humanity, there's also the factor that Davy Jones needs little or nothing in the manner of kindness.
