Poll: Which bunny to write for NaNo?

Official NaNoWriMo 2007 Participant

I'm going to do it. I'm going to write 50,000 words of story next month. That's an average of 1, 667 words per day. I really believe that I can do this - which is why I'm going for it. Wish me luck.

I've narrowed all my eligible plot bunnies to these. I'm torn. Help me choose by voting on one of these three (listed in timeline order).

1. Title: But What Lies Beneath?
Timeline: Clone Wars era. AU.
Main Characters:
Anakin Skywalker - Jedi Knight.
Padmé Naberrie - Retired Queen of Naboo.
Ian Naberrie - Her husband.
Mini-Summary
A Jedi turns up dead in the Naberries' Lake Retreat prompting an official investigation from Coruscant. Padmé Naberrie doesn't know it yet but the corpse in her lawn is about to become the least of her problems.

2. Title: The Seduction of Luke Skywalker
Timeline: AU. 16 years after RotS.
Main Characters:
Luke Skywalker.
Arica
Mini-Summary
Luke rescues a young runaway from Jabba's Palace and brings her home to the Lars' farmstead. No good deed goes unpunished.

3. Title: The Legend of Starkiller
Timeline: Post-RotJ. 22 years after the events of RotS. AU from the middle of RotS.
Main Characters:
Anakin Skywalker - Hermit.
Darth Starkiller - Sith Lord.
Mini-Summary
A lifetime ago, Anakin Skywalker destroyed the Sith and sacrificed his only love in the process. But the Force is still unbalanced. Years later, a new threat rises and the former Jedi puts on his lightsabre once more to face his last and greatest enemy...

So...

I think they all sound very interesting. Hmm... I'm not exactly sure how The Seduction of Luke Skywalker fits into the timeline... How can it take place between trlogies, and yet after ROTJ?

Which one speaks to you the most? Personally, I'm leaning towards the Seduction one, simply because I have a soft-spot for well-written Luke/person other than Mara fics, but dang, the others are also awesome. BWLB makes my AP shipper inside very happy and Starkiller looks intriguing too...

I think one of the hardest things about Nano is deciding on the right bunny.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 19th, 2007 04:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oops. That was an error. Seduction is set 16 years after RotS. Thanks!

Are you going to nano too?

P.S. Did you get the Jumper trailer?

I voted for #3 - I think it has a lot of possibilities.

1,600/ day is certainly possible provided 1) you don't second-guess yourself and edit too much or at all - NNWM is all about spitting out and completing that first draft, and 2) you don't limit yourself to that number if you think you have more in you during any given day. Rack up all the surplus words you can.

I wrote a 7,200 word story this week, which is only about 1K/day. It was doable and didn't completely take over the other parts of my life, but it was by far the main thing on my mind all week. Be prepared to have one thing only on the brain from the month of November.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice. I plan to not edit at all, no backspace and no spell check. I'll just close my eyes to any mistakes and do the editing in December.

Personally, I think they're all quite lovely plot bunnies and I'd like to see all of them written ;)

But if I have to pick one, I'll go with What Lies Beneath. I am *very* intrigued by the other two as well.
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 20th, 2007 03:11 am (UTC) (Link)
You went for the A/P! Why am I not surprised? :-D
frostbit_sky From: frostbit_sky Date: October 20th, 2007 03:31 am (UTC) (Link)
*rotfl* I love that icon!

I am so guilty of that. *g*
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 20th, 2007 06:29 am (UTC) (Link)
*g* So do I! fialleril is the best.
fialleril From: fialleril Date: October 19th, 2007 10:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
Good luck with whatever you choose!

But as you might have guessed, I voted for The Legend of Starkiller. Three reasons: 1. I might actually get to see what your redeemed!Anakin looks like, finally ;) 2. I want you to write Luke, and Luke already dark is more appealing than Luke in the process of falling and 3. I want to see you do a redemption story. :) And also the fact that it's OT timeline with (hopefully!) OT characters is not hurting anything at all. ;)
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 20th, 2007 03:06 am (UTC) (Link)
*g* The funny thing is that the Anakin of 'What Lies Beneath' might be the better Anakin of the two, although not by very much. ;)
fialleril From: fialleril Date: October 23rd, 2007 04:11 am (UTC) (Link)
*le sigh* It appears I have interpreted your plot bunny entirely wrong. But since you have yet to start writing, I still have time to convince you of the error of your ways. ;)

Heh. Sometimes I wonder which would be the more difficult: getting you to write good!Anakin, or getting you to write saint!Obi-Wan... ;)
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 23rd, 2007 06:40 am (UTC) (Link)
If I wrote a saint!Obi then it won't be Obi-Wan Kenobi. It might look like Obi-Wan Kenobi and bear the same name, but it would be a totally different animal.

The more I think of it, the more I realise just how good "What Lies Beneath" Anakin will be. :p A pillar of fortitude in the midst of trials the likes of Job. You can still vote again, if you want. ;)
fialleril From: fialleril Date: October 24th, 2007 02:02 am (UTC) (Link)
Well... I could make the argument that evil!Luke isn't really Luke Skywalker either, but I shall refrain... ;) Likewise I shall disregard the fact that evil!Padmé isn't exactly Padmé. :D

A pillar of fortitude in the midst of trials the likes of Job.

Hmm... Actually, I think that statement makes me glad I voted as I did. ;) 'Cause I think I can guess what those trials will be, and while I know that you write them very well, that sort of thing usually isn't my cup of tea. Nothing against you or your story/story idea, you understand. Just personal persnickety preference. ;)
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 24th, 2007 06:18 am (UTC) (Link)
Then it's a good thing I don't write evil!Luke or evil!Padmé, isn't it? ::halo::

I'm really curious as to what you are so sure those trials will be... but I think I'll just let you judge for yourself if you guessed right.
fialleril From: fialleril Date: October 24th, 2007 09:35 pm (UTC) (Link)
Your halo is getting caught on your horns, dear. ;)

Well, you did give me a fairly detailed synopsis of this fic once, if you remember. ;) (About the time I told you about pirate!Anakin and Kitster.) Of course, I wouldn't put it past you to change it radically, and I'm sure you will surprise me. And I'm sure I will enjoy it no matter what you do. You're one of those writers who has such a beautiful style and wonderful way with symbolism that I enjoy reading your work even if I don't like any of the characters involve or really care for the plot. ;)

Erm, I didn't mean that to sound bad. It's a compliment, actually. Kind of like the way I adore Hamlet, even though I find none of the characters (except Ophelia) to be sympathetic, and the plot generally makes me want to hit some of the characters upside the head. And yet it's so blasted good.

Hope that made some sense...

I do remember. *confused* Ah well, I guess the synopsis didn't really convey the intention.

It's a compliment, actually.

*g* Thanks! I think. :p

Oh, I think it did. It's more likely that I'm just not being very articulate now. (That seems to be happening a lot lately.) But I don't really want to say anything much more specific, for fear of ruining it for everyone else. ;)

Thanks! I think. :p

*chuckles evilly*

I think I need a Palpatine icon. All this evil laughter lately, and no proper icon to go with it...

I thought you had an evil Palpatine icon, complete with cackles and Sith lightning?

I love a good mystery!

You hopefully won't be disappointed. Thanks!

This was sooo hard to choose (between 1 &3)
I picked the first.
I like a good murder mystery. And I'm just love A/P fics.

But I must say I hope you write Starkiller too, when your done with the challenge. I am interested in that story too.

Good luck with the writing :D

It's so cool watching the numbers change. No one seems keen on Luke's seduction for some reason. *g
frostbit_sky From: frostbit_sky Date: October 20th, 2007 03:28 am (UTC) (Link)
Yea, the numbers were different early today when I did a quick check of my f-list.

I just felt that 1 and 3 had the most potential. Those seemed like they had the most detailed summary.

Luke's seduction - I'd be interested in what Uncle Owen thinks of him bringing a strange girl home *lol*
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 20th, 2007 06:34 am (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, I think I really shortchanged that story in its summary. It's actually quite interesting but the catch isn't something that is immediately obvious... Ah well. Maybe I'll try it next in December.

Sorry, I just had to give you *one* plug for Luke's seduction. :D If ever there was a guy who needed seducing, it has to be Luke.

OH!! Another crazy person who is going to attempt to complete the NaNoWriMo! We should form an LJ support club for this!!

**note to self...remember to go to the NaNo site and get that icon!**
moonspinner From: moonspinner Date: October 23rd, 2007 06:45 am (UTC) (Link)
Certainly! Is there a comm or anything we can join where we can encourage each other?

The icons can be found on Nano but you'll have to re-size them to fit into LJ's standards. You can just borrow mine - don't even bother crediting.
gizzi1213 From: gizzi1213 Date: October 31st, 2007 02:59 am (UTC) (Link)
I came back over to your site to see the results of your poll. I'm disappointed that the "The Legend of Starkiller" plot idea isn't in the lead. I LOVE that idea. You know I'm going to have to nag you to do that one even if you don't write it for the NaNo.

BTW, I'm grabbing that icon before I forget again.

OH! I also added you as a NaNo writing buddy. Hope you don't mind. Please feel free to add me back. My profile is here.
