Fairy Tales & Mythological Recs - moonspinner
Fairy Tales & Mythological Recs
Verity: Princess Verity gets to be a knight in shining armour to Prince (Rabun)zel. Court intrigue. Magic and sorcery. My personal favourite.

this is not a chick flick: When a doting wife mistily reminiscences about how her husband swept her off her feet, that statement should not be followed by "and into the very gates of the Underworld itself, where he forced me to languish for nearly a year until my mother threatened to annihilate the whole world into a nuclear winter if I didn't make it home by curfew." fialleril, you will love the way this ends. :D

Skin: A modern-day Rumpelstiltskin story that ends with a twist. (I am extraordinarily proud of the fact that I spelt the name right at first try, from memory!)

Don't forget to leave feedback on the site for the writers!

OMG I am so completely in love with "this is not a chick flick"! Particularly the characterization of Apollo and Hermes. :D And also the ending. And the general complete fail of Hades. And also Aphrodite in general.

Definitely the best version of Hades/Persephone I've found on the interwebs so far. I'm glad you enjoyed it too. :)

I have to go out and work soon, so I don't have time to read your other recs yet, but I will get to them soon. They both sound excellent. :D

He he. I knew you would love that one. :P I am totally in love and in awe with the author's voice. If I were to pick my favourite line, I think I'd end up quoting the whole story. :P

I might have to go with Apollo's vehement insistence that he's irresistible to women, if only because veriond and I have a joke about that. (Apollo kind of fails with the ladies.) But it would definitely be a hard choice!

LOL! Who was the nymph that turned herself into a tree anyway? The story sounds vaguely familiar but I can't remember the details or the name of the nymph and I'm too lazy to read it up...

Daphne. :)

But none of Apollo's loves end well. And most of them are unwilling...

I liked all the stories, but I loved Verity and This is not a Chick Flick best. I loved how Verity was a gender switched version of Rapunzel. Verity and Radunzel were likeable, deep characters. The story Verity was clever and well thought out.

I also adored how This is not a Chick Flick showed Persephone falling in love realistically. And the portrayals of the gods and goddesses (especially Zeus) were hilarious. And Persephone's love of gloomy horrible things was too funny.

I think Verity should be made into a movie, that's how much I liked it.

Zeus was hilarious – disturbing, but hilarious all the same. And Aphrodite is just about my favourite right now. After P, of course, who just rocks.

He he. I just realized that I haven't left reviews over at the site. :D
