I wholeheartedly agree with you. I've been working on a recap/review all night (basically just me being a douche with pictures and random thoughts about th episode) but I didn't believe that Kahlan or Cara were out of character at all. I liked the scene with Kahlan crying over the sword, I liked Cara's reaction to it. I liked that it showed that yes, Kahlan is a woman with emotions and she can cry over missing Richard but then she'll stand up and be strong in the length of a breath. She shows her weaknesses, that's part of why she's the Mother Confessor and those weaknesses (or lack there of, in my opinion) make her powerful. I thought this moment was another lesson in Cara's growth, really. It opened a door to what was to come later in the episode with Leo.

Cara needed to see that, to understand Kahlan, so that she could open up to Leo. If that makes sense?

And sure, Cara was out of character giggling, if you want her to stay exactly the same and never grow as a character!

Precisely. When I want to watch emotionless robot girls, I watch reruns of Cameron in Sarah Connor Chronicles. Kahlan and Cara are living breathing persons and shoehorning them into a one-dimensional personality doesn't really make sense, imo.

THIS.
