12 Narnia Book Cover Icons! - moonspinner
12 Narnia Book Cover Icons!
Apparently most of the Narnia icons on LJ are those based off the movie. Well, no biggie. I was inspired by fialleril's recent spate of activity and decided to make some icons of my own. :)

In chronological order:
1. The rings
2. Diggory and the Tree
3. The Tombs of Calormen. That's Bree in the background
4. Probably a pair of matching royal rings representing Cor and Corin
5. The sword of Caspian... or Peter?
6. A 'Dark' Dawn Treader
7. Prettier Dawn Treader complete with scary wave-face
8. Red-Dawn Treader
9. The Green Snake which used to be a beautiful green woman
10. Rillian destroying his jail
11. Jewel
12. Bright, more girly Jewel. :p

Credit goes to Barnes & Noble fromw here I got scans of the cover arts. All the icons are crops of those scans, with a little artistic modifications here and there.

Please comment and if used, please credit. Thanks!

Wow, that's some really high-resolution scanning! Did you have to saturate the color after you scanned it in? The effects are pretty nice! You've really captured the icon spirit. Very pretty!

Thanks! Yes I had to do things to the colour and brightness. I use Photo Editor so I leached off some of the blue and green to make, for example, the Twin Rings brighter. And the Rings (this icon) were too green so I leached off the green and added a little red. Stuff like that. I'm glad you like them. I think I'll make more.

Those are beaut-ee-ful!

I used to know how make icons but for some reason now they keep coming up blurry. I think I need lessons. What do you do?

Snags #6, thank you very much! (the art fairy is being petulant this week and everything I start looks like butt - so I'm still working at it)

Oh well I use Microsoft Photo Editor. I usually crop it large to something like 400 by 400 pixels so I can see the image properly. Then I do things like Brightness/Contrast/Gamma modifications to each of the colours (Red/Blue/Green) until I get the particular effect that I want. I think for #6, I added some green just to give it a little evil tint. (I always see green as the colour of poison). Then I sharpened it to emphasize those discolourations in the background.

Glad you like them. :)

#1 is so otherworldly, like it's from some space invader sci-fi novel rather than children's fantasy. Hee. The artwork of Shasta at the tombs is lovely, though.

It should be otherwordly. That's the wood between the worlds and those rings are your ticket-stumps to world-travel. *g*

Oooh, prettiness. :D I especially love #8. The sea of sweet water and lilies is probably my favorite image in all the books. Also, #2 is very nice.
